Spirit Maine's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles. 

Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles. 


Your role: Spirit Maine is seeking a highly experienced, professional individual with a background in the Defense and Aerospace Industry who can immediately contribute to the continued success and growth of our business by planning, directing, managing, and coordinating all the activities within the Program Management, Contracts, and Purchasing groups. You must be comfortable in a technical setting and can interact at high Executive and Engineering levels internally and with the customers to manage multi-million-dollar defense programs and contracts. As a member of the Site Leadership staff, you will be driving and influencing our company’s strategies and decisions in support of our continued growth.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Program Management, Contracts, and Purchasing teams to support large defense programs and contracts
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the full life-cycle Contract Management including preparation and review of contracts, proposals, agreements, related negotiations, pricing review and approval, contracts administration, export and import compliance and customer contact/interface
  • Provide Program and Customer oversight to the team to ensure all contractual requirements are met, meeting budget, cost and schedule while achieving all technical requirements
  • Manage and direct supplier oversight and procurement processes
  • Responsible for maintaining strong customer relationships and leading multiple programs and contracts with multiple customers
  • Analyze and negotiate contracts received from the government and industry prime customers identifying areas of risk and developing negotiation strategies
  • Support new business opportunities through strategic and tactical planning, capture planning, development of proposals and execution plans
  • Manage and support the team to measure and report program performance and customer satisfaction
  • Develop and maintain strong, positive working relationships with employees, customers, program team members, industry peers and Senior Leaders (both local and at other Spirit locations)
  • Support & influence functional areas such as, Business Development, Legal, Engineering, Finance, Supply Chain and Quality

What we need from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related technical degree
  • 10+ years experience in defense/aerospace industry
  • Excellent strategic thinking, problem solving, and creativity in finding better ways to achieve goals
  • A desire to assist in growing the business and gaining efficiencies to help 
  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience
  • Strong understanding of Government Contracting and FAR requirements
  • Strong financial and business acumen
  • Demonstrated technical capacity in Programs, Contracts-related Regulatory Environments
  • Commitment to thoroughness and attention to detail
  • Outstanding decision-making and professional judgment
  • Sound understanding of contracts and business accounting / finance
  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills
  • Ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance
  • Ability to travel up to 30% 

Preferred:

  • MBA
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • CCCM / CFCM certification
  • Successful track record managing Defense and Space customers and Programs
