Spirit Maine's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles. 

Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles. 


Your role: Spirit Maine is seeking a goal oriented and experienced team leader for our Manufacturing Technician position. As the Manufacturing Technician, you will be primarily responsible for providing strategic alignment for all of production. You will have the opportunity to direct the continuous improvement activities, optimizing resources to maximize operations and contribute to business profitability. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops processes, systems, and equipment that ensure the quality, reliability, and system safety of company or procured products and services
  • Analyzes contractual, product definition, and specification requirements for the development or modification of methods, procedures, and metrics needed to ensure that all standards and practices are attained
  • Write periodic reports and make occasional oral presentations to management and/or customers on specific projects
  • Lean principles and Continuous Improvement activities
  • Serve to ensure optimal use of equipment by arranging/making moves, scheduling, and keeping genba boards accurate and up to date at least twice per shift.  Communicate and escalate needs.
  • Identify and/or help execute improvement projects
  • Serve as back up when leadership is unavailable – out of office or off site
  • Conduct training, and gather/report feedback on procedures which are incorrect, have missing tribal steps, or are otherwise unclear
  • Ensure team members have what they need to succeed and that new production products run smooth – items ready, settings all double checked, and turnaround times minimized

What we need from you:

  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years relevant or related experience in a manufacturing setting
  •  Ability to manage multiple projects and processes at the same time
  •  Experience with hands-on in processing 
  •  Must be able to work in confined spaces, as well as work on ladders
  •  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  •  Motivated, responsible, reliable, self-starter
  •  Works well individually or as member of a team and interdepartmental communications 
  •  Great attention to detail
  •  Ability to multitask and prioritize
  •  General technical understanding is required
  •  6S and Lean experience preferred
